Cambridge School Registration Process — A Complete Step-by-Step Guide
CAIE’s official four-step process, explained — from expression of interest to becoming a registered Cambridge School.
The Six Official Steps
01
NOC from State
Obtain the No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the concerned State Government authority, permitting the school to be established and operate under Cambridge International.
02
Infrastructure
Ensure adequate, safe and well-equipped school infrastructure, including classrooms, laboratories, library, ICT facilities, sports areas and other essential learning spaces as required by Cambridge International.
03
Express Your Interest
Submit an expression of interest to CAIE. They aim to make contact within 5 – 10 working days.
04
Complete the Application Form
Submit the formal application. CAIE again aims to respond within 5 – 15 working days.
05
Approval Visit
CAIE arranges a visit at a convenient time to assess infrastructure, curriculum readiness, and staffing against what was declared in the application.
06
Become a Cambridge School
If approved, CAIE sends the contract letter within 30 working days of the approval visit. The full process typically takes around 12 weeks.
A Note on 'Approved with Conditions'
One possible outcome of the approval visit is being ‘approved with conditions’ — meaning registration is approved, but with restrictions until specific conditions are met, often further curriculum planning, teacher professional development, or examination security requirements. This is not a rejection — it is a defined path to full registration once the listed conditions are satisfied.
School Registration vs. Exam Centre Registration
Being a ‘Cambridge School’ specifically means CAIE has authorised the institution to teach and assess Cambridge programmes — and this requires both school registration and, separately, exam centre registration to actually administer examinations. These are two distinct approvals, not one.
Consistent with Cambridge programme structure: schools typically register for Cambridge IGCSE (Cambridge Upper Secondary) authorisation first, then extend to Cambridge Advanced (AS & A Level) once they have the infrastructure and faculty for senior secondary teaching in place.
How Eduaccess Helps
Navigating CAIE’s four-step registration process — from expression of interest through to the approval visit — means preparing infrastructure, curriculum, and staffing documentation that stands up to CAIE’s own readiness criteria. Eduaccess manages this end-to-end, helping schools go into the approval visit fully prepared rather than risking an ‘approved with conditions’ outcome that delays full registration.
Led by Mr. Sivaramakrishna Chakkilala — a seasoned Education Leadership Expert with expertise in curriculum development, teacher training, and driving school improvement initiatives — Eduaccess brings the same structured, compliance-first approach to Cambridge School registration.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does the Cambridge approval visit take to arrange?
CAIE arranges the approval visit at a time convenient to the school, following review of the completed application form.
What happens if a school is 'approved with conditions'?
Registration is approved, but with restrictions until specific listed conditions are met — often further curriculum planning, teacher professional development, or examination security requirements. It is not a rejection; it is a defined path to full registration once those conditions are satisfied.
Is exam centre registration automatic once a school is registered?
No. School registration and exam centre registration are two distinct approvals — being authorised to teach and assess Cambridge programmes does not automatically grant authorisation to administer examinations.
Does Cambridge re-check schools after they are registered?
Yes. CAIE conducts periodic reapproval visits after initial registration to confirm schools continue meeting requirements.
